الحمد لله والصلاة والسلام على رسول الله سرني كثيراً حضوري المؤتمر الدولي الخامس وأكثر ما أثلج صدري أن أشارك أخيراً في منتدى يناقش قضايا المرأة المسلمة في بلد عربي مسلم بعدما شاركت كثيراً في مؤتمرات وورش حول قضايا تطوير أوضاع المرأة وتمكينها خارج العالم الإسلامي والعربي. Continue reading

The panel comprised of Ms Halima Yagoob Mohammed, Gender Based Violence Expert; Ms Mariam Alsadig Almahdi, General Secretary Assistant for Communication, Umma National Party; Ms Mona Elshareif Tazorah, Public Health Professional, University of Medical Science and Technology; Ms Mona Mohammed Gumma Khatier, Human Rights Expert; Dr Asma Siddig Adam Abdalla, Klaimendo Development Organisation and Niemat Ahmadai, Representative of the Darfur Leaders Network, USA. Dr Monica Juma, Executive Director, African Policy Institute, chaired the discussion that was attended by more than 50 people from different non-governmental and international organizations as well as government representatives.

Women from military and political hot spots — including Sudan and Uganda — were in Washington last week. They are part of a growing push to increase the numbers of female candidates in upcoming elections and put more women in peace talks.

WASHINGTON –Mariam Alsadig Almahdi is an ex-combatant in Sudan, a medical doctor, a mother of six and a current high-ranking official in Sudanese party politics.

Mariam Alsadig Almahdi

Mariam Alsadig Almahdi is currently the general secretary assistant for communications in the Umma National Party (UNP). She has been a member of the board of trustees for the Forum of Youth for Arabic Thought. Ms. Almahdi has also worked for Alahfad University, and the Geneva Call. Her expertise lies in democracy and good governance. She attended the University of Jordan, the University of Liverpool, the University of Ahfad, and the Sudanese Medical Council for Specialization. Ms. Almahdi has engaged in peace-building activities through grassroots training, advocacy workshops, and human rights training. She is author of “Gender Analysis of Wealth Sharing Protocol in the CPA,” “Gender and Good Governance,” “Right to Vote,” and “Women and Being Religious.” Continue reading
